Below are the episodes for the “Overview of Native American History” series posted in January 2021.

Ep 14 – From The North

From the north, where the caribou, polar bear, and ringed seal provide sustenance and warmth, trade items move south to Ojibwa and other Native American groups. This episode also features videos from other producers – giving voice to Native Americans who live in the Great Lakes Region. From production of maple sugar to harvest of sacred manoomin – wild rice – we hear directly from Native American voices.

Ep 15 – English and Dutch

The English and the Dutch arrive in America, both involved in the Beaver Trade and in establishing colonies. Native Americans give these Europeans a warm welcome, but the Europeans seem to have no knowledge or skills to survive in America. Their mortality rate is appalling, but those who survive do so with the help of the Powhatan, the Wampanoag, and the Narragansett. When more people come from Europe, the demands on the indigenous population become intolerable. Wars break out, and Native Americans witness a new level of war from European swords and guns.
